how time flies! : Frisco Family Photographer

I’ve been photographing this beautiful family since the boys were little, the youngest was just a baby and *oh my!* how time flies. I was in shock when they came out of the car so handsome and so grown up! They were SOOOO good and they even thought my silly dancing and monkey sounds were funny! 😉 It was all worth it because – I am *in.love* with these images! Tell me if you are too!
*PS. Tee’s from Peek!

Can’t decide between bw and color so I am showing both!

RWPhoto at Peek Aren’t You Curious! : Dallas Family Photographer

We are so excited to be working with our favorite store and to have had our artwork displayed on their window! By now you know that we are BIG fans of Peek Aren’t You Curious. We are SO lucky to have one of their stores here in Dallas in Northpark Center. Northpark is THE BEST place to shop in this city (I consider it a little slice of heaven!) It is also a special place for me because it reminds me of my husband’s grandmother. She was an avid Northpark shopper and she would be proud if she could see my work in one of the windows! I miss you Nana!

Anyway… I digress… back to Peek – Peek has seriously awesome clothes that fit my style of photography to a tee (no pun intended). I love their clothing and I love my friends at the store so much that I have started offering personal shopping at no additional cost for my clients at their Dallas store. So if you book a session and you want me to shop for you, we can set that up when we schedule your session. I can do it all for you and bring the clothes with me to the shoot or you can meet me there and we can shop the store together. If the schedules are tight or you rather fly solo – I can call the store ahead of time to let them know you are coming and to talk to them about our vision for the shoot so they can help you put together the perfect outfits. THESE GIRLS ARE THE BEST! Even if you are not shopping for session outfits GO visit them (tell them I sent you!) – I was there on Friday and they had great new arrivals and everything you need to update your kids’ summer closets.

So here it is – our image on their window (excuse the crappy iphone pictures!) The irony of my kids fighting in front of the store ( on Mother’s day ) is not lost on me. That picture on the window is amazing and it captured a fleeting moment of peace that is worth every sibling war behind us!

Happy Mother’s Day : Dallas Children’s Photographer

I hope everybody had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Children are truly a GIFT from the LORD.  Each and everyday I am so thankful for being a mommy and for the heritage of the wonderful women that GOD put in my life.  I am blessed!

I know these images are going to bring JOY to Emma and Ethan’s mom.  Here is a sneak peek from our family session from mother’s day weekend – can’t wait to show you the rest!

full of personality

It is so much fun capturing a baby’s first year of life.  The sitting down stage is by far one of my favorites.  Baby Ethan is back for his sitting up session of our baby plan . He is full of laughter, full of personality, full of joy and oh those rolls …  more pictures from their family session to come soon 😉

in defense of black and white

I know that color photography is in – I know that funky, desaturated colors that give the image a vintage feel are in.  Or color that pops and makes you think of rainbows and butterflies and happy sunny summer days.  I get it,  and YES, I do offer color to my clients.  I am ok with color, I have enjoyed color more lately and I think it has its time and place – but the truth is – my heart will always be with black and white.  Why?  Well look at this image and you will know why.

This is a timeless image.  Beautiful, straight black and white that reminds me of my days in film *gasp – sometimes I wish we could just go back so I could say – no these can ONLY be black and white.  When the color fads are long gone, I will be glad to have my beautiful black and white prints that capture time without dating it.

Again, I am not saying that there is not a place for color (and yes I know grandma does NOT want a black and white photo cause that is all they had when they grew up!) – but do NOT kid yourselves.  Color .WILL. date. itself.  Crazy funky clothes WILL.MOST. DEFINITELY.date themselves.  Pull out your baby pictures and take a look at them.  Notice the lovely brown tones?  Notice how hideous the clothes are?  What were our parents thinking? ..  Our kids will be saying this someday!

Black and White neutralizes, brings focus into the subject and truly captures emotion.   Black and White is enduring art that you WILL cherish for years to come.  My dad was an amateur photographer and I have loads of black and white photography (that we developed ourselves in our tiny bathroom) I am SO glad those pictures are relevant and beautiful and timeless today.   I do not miss the color.  I need to scan some of them and prove it to you!

When you are choosing a photographer do think about what you want out of your images.  It is fine to have color in your life, and funky outfits that make you laugh.   Custom photography IS an investment and I know that there are plenty of choices out there, especially now that there is a huge boom in photography.  Everybody has access to a digital camera but not everybody can achieve the same results with it,  or create images that will stand the test of time.  If you want to invest in art  that captures your children’s childhoods,  I urge you to consider black and white once again,  and if you are thinking art worthy black and white then you should be giving ME a call.  I know that years down the road you will be so glad you did.

Happy New Year!! : Dallas Photographer

Whew!  After a crazy busy Christmas season I took a couple of weeks off to spend with my family.  It was just what I needed!   I am so thankful for all the blessings that 2009 brought.  It is a new year now and I am looking forward to a new beginning.  Talking about new beginnings to kick off the blog in 2010 I wanted to share my first session of the year.   I have been photographing this family for three or four years?  I forget!  Anyway – their mom is a very close friend of ours.  I mean close – close – as in she was at the birth of our daughter and helped us throughout the whole pregnancy.  Monica is just a blessing to our family and we just love her and well…  her kids are some of my favorite kids in the whole world.  I love love all the hugs, kisses and stories I get when I get to photograph them.  Aren’t they just the most gorgeous children?  Can’t believe how fast they are growing up!

May God bless you in 2010!  Let’s make it a great one!
